's going on. the good news for mitt romney is that you look at those polls and see that on individual state polls and as it goes for independence. mitt romney still enjoys an advantage in several key places among independents, and that has to be encouraging for his campaign even as they get all of these bad polls put out on their head. he won one how does this change, if at all, mitt romney's strategy. some are arguing, including charles krauthammer, that romney needs to do well in the last five weeks. >> it will not surprise you for me to say that charles is very smart. here is the deal. the independents think the system is broken and they want to hear big solutions, bold ideas, because they think that the country is dreadful. you heard him when he was at valley forge military academy. he was not talking in muted tones. he was talking in big and bold tones in what he believes in the middle east and has to carry that message over to the economic argument, the deficit spending argument, and he has to bring a really hardball -- a hard fastball when he shows up at that debate on wednesday. meg

it very difficult for romney to put together a coalition that can take the state. colorado has been fairly close so again obama mabey looks like a fairy or four-point lead on average read a lot of demographic change. you can see the minority eligible voters have gone up by three percentage points and working-class voters in 2008 have gone down by three percentage points. again it doesn't appear that romney is able to turn the demographics tie in his favor. he's not doing much better among the white working-class voters according to the polls i've seen. he's made some progress on the outside margin that obama got 14 points in 2008 among the college graduate voters but he's not making nearly enough voters to take the state and if you break it down geographically the denver metro area is about half the vote in the state but that looks very similar in the polling data as it did in 2008. finally, the poster child for demographic change in the united states and how it's been shifted pretty rapidly over time as the great state of nevada. obama is running ahead of though not nearly as far as he di

challenger has a benefit when they get up on the stage against the president of the united states. the debates level the playing field. they put you on the stage in an equal footing. i think mitt romney comes into the debate with an advantage because of that. i think the question in this race, all campaigns are different and i think in this race, this is very much of a choice election. i think people see very different visions for the future between these two candidates and my guess is, when we get out of the debates they are going to continue to see the two visions and right now they're picking barack obama's vision. i think in 2004, it was more of a referendum on bush and i think ultimately people decided that the referendum they wanteded to stay with the incumbent. i think this election is a little different. >> i'm not sure you got to the meat of my question, why your guy won the debates but lost eat lex. >> well, again, i think he won the debates because when standing on the stage with the president of the united states and you give a decent performance you're going to -- the

to say that about libya. on the second question, pertaining to governor romney, he just needs to present a more compelling vision of what he wants to do with foreign policy of the united states. he has talked about military modernization, governor romney has, and maintaining the strength of our fleet and air forces. i think governor romney is right about that. president obama -- this goes direct your question -- has a very modern view of how to use the military. i think he decided quickly after taking office that he would take us out of iraq, which he did in december 2011, after building up and afghanistan with the surge began drawing down and said that most of our combat troops would be out by 2014. we fought two major land wars simultaneously with hundreds of thousands of troops involved. we have never done that before in american history, with the exception of the second world war. i think president obama wants to avoid the land wars if we can in the future and use the cooperative -- imperative advantage we have, and our air power, at sea power, and special forces. it has been effecti
